Do We Really Want Revival?

Posted on July 20th, 2010 by sharonheights.

When we hear the word “revival” we automatically think of persons being saved. While this does happen during most revival services, did you realize that revival is not necessarily for unsaved people? The word “revive” means to bring back to life again. This means that there had to be life to begin with. This is true in our spiritual lives as well. Revival is actually for those that have had spiritual life infused into them. In other words, revival is for Christians. Are you ready for revival?

In this blog post I want every person to post what they want to see happen in revival? What do you want to happen in your own life? What do you want to see happen in your family’s life? What do you want to see happen in our church’s life? Look forward to seeing your post on the blog..

Summer Time is Here

Well, as you can tell Summer time is here and it is hot, hot, hot, and it looks like it is going to be one of the hottest summers we have had in a long time. I hope you have somne family time carved out for you and the family to get away for a time of refreshment and relaxation.

One of the things that I cantinually preach and teach and hopefully practice is when we are on vacation or away from our “Faith Family” that we are sure to worship as a family together somewhere. Now with the internet like it is you can even gather the family around the computer and watch our services live on Sundays. Thanks Anthony and team for your efforts.

The question this month that I want to hear back from you on and I am also interested to know of options is this—when you are out of town what do you and your family do for worship time? I am interested in and would love to know what you do for vacation time worship…

Summer is Here

From the Pastor,    As I am hunkered down in a bunker working on a sermon for the next Sunday’s message, I have the privilege of being in a library by a window looking out at a fountain spraying water on a beautiful day. God is so good to us;even when we are faithless, He is faithful! Summer time is here and each time these seasons change I am reminded that God is still in charge and on His throne.  So far we have had a great month of May. We celebrated Mother’s Day on May 9th with a time of baby dedication. The Lord blessed with the dedication of ten babies. Thanks to the parents of all of those children, and pray for them to remember this commitment that was made to their children and to Almighty God. We also recognized all of our mothers and celebrated what all mothers mean to  us at SHBC. On May 23rd, our GA’s had a time of recognition during the evening service. Thanks to Kim Lovejoy and all the ladies that help out in the area of Girls in Action. Thanks for putting your time and effort into missions with our young ladies. God is rewarding and will reward you gals in the future for all of your hard work and effort for missions.   This Sunday, May 30th we are having what we have titled “Family Day” during our morning service. After Sunday School, we are having all families ( kids 3 year old and up) sit together for time of worship and then after the morning service we will be having a lunch at the fellowship hall. This is going to be a great time of fellowship for our families. If you are by yourself then join a family for this day of worship. Also, during the evening service we will be blessed by our children’s choir as they perform their musical “Back at the Creekbank.” Brother Jere has done a wonderful job getting these children ready for this event. Let them know how much you appreciate them by being here for this event and support them.   With the Summer months comes our time of Vacation Bible School here at SHBC. This year’s theme is going to be awesome—Saddle Ridge. This is going to be a cowboy theme, and I am looking forward to seeing what all the teachers and helpers do for this week of VBS. Please be in prayer for our new VBS director Kristy Lowe as she prepares for this important week in our children’s lives. VBS will be the week of June 6th-June 10th during the evening time. We will also be having a Carnival and Parade on June 5th for our kickoff for VBS and also any proceeds go towards our Kids Camp in August. Looking forward to an exciting time in the life of our children department at SHBC.   On June 20th, we will be celebrating Father’s Day and also having a men’s breakfast at 8AM in our fellowship hall. We are looking forward to a great time of meeting with our men and also hear a challenge to live as men and fathers.   Have you noticed that our resource center is back up and going? If you have not then please stop by and check it out. Our youth are taking this as a mission trip fund raiser as they “man” the center each week. Check it out—it has some great books and other resources for you or a friend.  Our library is starting to get folks in to check out books and even videos that we have available. Thanks to Barbara Harris who has been working hard to get this going and it is a blessing for our people. Check out the library at SHBC in room #142 on the first floor.   Our live services are getting more and more people involved from outside the church on Sunday mornings and evenings. The current series that we are in seems to be getting people’s attention on the basic idea of Walking the Talk. The Book of James has been and continues to be a challenge as we study week in and week out. Please spread the word about this ministry tool and opportunity. The whole idea is to minister to those who are serving their communities in the area of fire, police, and medical. Of course for those who are out sick or are unable to be at the services for some reason, this is a great tool as well. It is truly a blessing to hear of people that tune in and are blessed and challenged in their Christian lives. Send them to www.sharonheights.org for more information on this tool.   We have also finished up our 13th semester of faith evangelism. The Lord continues to bless this effort each week as we go out and share Christ and minister to others in the name of Jesus. We will be having our faith celebration on Sunday night June 27th at 6PM. This will be when you have an opportunity to sign up for the 14th semester which begins on August 19th. Hope you will pray about being a part of this life-changing process.   I need to quit writing, but please pray about our nominating process as we are working on classes and leaders for the 2010-2011 year, and also please pray for our planning team and also about our old building selling in the future. We have plans but we want God to be the Master Planner! Serving Till He Comes, Pastor Jason

Hide and Seek

Do you remember as a kid playing hide and seek? I always cheated when I counted and counted by tens to one hundred. We would always play right up to dark and about the only thing that got our attention would be the popsicle truck…as matter of fact I think I hear it now…be right back…okay now that I got my two-ball screwball popsicle we can continue..lol  Anyway, the object was to find the best place to hide so that no one could find you. As the daylight hours began to fade and night began to come in, it was amazing how many times we all wanted to be found in our hiding places.

Just a thought–when Jesus comes again, there will be no hiding for those who reject the God of the universe. They will experience devastation and destruction beyond our imagining, calling out the rocks and hills to fall on them and hide them from the wrath of God and of the Lamb.

I love the group “For Him”, even though they are not still together as a group. There is a song they sing called “Hiding Place.” Those of us that have been born-again have the ultimate Hiding Place and His name is none other than Jesus Christ. ( Psalm 32:7 ) The only One that matters has already found us and now we are protected by Him…prasie the Lord!

I would love to hear about when you met your Hiding Place…comment and each comment will be posted the next day….have a great week

Back Up And Going

Hey SHBC and Friends,

It has been a while since I have written on the blog and I am hoping to be able to continue doing this each week. What will help me is for others to comment on the blog with any postives or negatives about the article of the week.

This week I am thinking about how fast this world has gotten just in the last fifteen years. Do you remember when you carried your mobile phone in a bag? It was in that huge “honking” bag with a strap to carry with you. Do you remember when you had a pager and when you got paged you had to find a pay phone? Do they still have pay phones? Do you remember when and if you had a phone in your car it was in a cradle that was mounted in the car? Do you remember when you had to wait for the oven to warm up before you could warm something up instead of putting in the nuke machine ( microwave ). Archie Bunker’s theme song has a line in it…”those were the days.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d8FTPv955I Do you remember those days?

I am one of those kind of guys that loves to go back and revisit the past years of life. Some of the memories are funny ( when I spit in the fish tank in Creola Parker’s ( God rest her soul ) classroom at Gardendale High School and killed a school of goldfish ) and also some are bad memories ( when I had to pay for that school of fish before graduating ) Already in the 38 years, soon to be 39 ( do you remember when 39 was old ) I have said goodbye to quite a few friends on this side of eternity, and I am sure you have as well. Memories are what God gives each of us so that we can have roses in the winter times of life. ( Vance Havener )

Of all the fast pace things we have in our technology, there is still one thing that never changes and never will–the way to get to Heaven. Jesus Christ stated in the Gospel of John that He was the only way to the Father. ( John 14:6 ) Isn’t it amazing that today we can put a man on the moon ( even though now we have to count on the Russians to help us do that now ) but we cannot earn or find peace with God on our own. I guess my main point this week is for us all to slow down and enjoy this life on this side of eternity–after all it is only one heart beat stopping from being all over.

I love the Andy Griffith show. I am reminded of one episode in which they had a visiting preacher and the message was slow down. The irony of the whole thing was the preacher himself would not slow down to apply the message he had preached. God help us to slow down and enjoy life. The other evening I took my son to a hamburger joint–we sat there and I got to listening to him talk, and guess what–he had grown up right under my nose and here I was staring at a young boy with his theological foundation pretty much started and well on its way to being “his” own. Wow! God help us to slow down!

What are some things or suggestions you have to slow down in life? I would love to hear them my friend…comment…

  Hello SHBC,

Day four is now about to wind down and the Lord has not let us down at all. He blessed us with weather about 85-90 degrees and also with a great time of door to door and VBS. We had 298 children attend the vacation bible school and for the week we have had about 70 persons profess their belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Praise the Lord–we will be leaving in the morning headed to Antigua for Thursday and Friday. Then the Lord willing we will be flying out headed to Atlanta and then be driving home. The Lord has been good to us this week with some schemes the devil has thrown at us and He still reigns. We are looking forward to being back with our faith family on Sunday at Sharon Heights Baptist Church.

Prayer requests–please pray for no roadblocks heaeded to Antigua on Thursday.

We are looking forward to sharing more fo what the Lord is doing and what He has done in the town of La Mercedes.

Thanks for being a praying people

Operation “GO” Guatemala  Blog#3   Day three has been a definite success for the team and for the Kingdom of God! For some they have had the privilege to lead their first person to Jesus Christ! Praise be to the Almighty Father, who is good and Sovereign in all things. This morning we started out by meeting with our host church and praying over some property that have purchased for building a larger sanctuary for more people to be a part of the service. Then we headed to the town where they have the vision of planting a church, and SHBC is sharing in this vision as well. The town is called La Mercedes. This is the same town we worked in last year with the same church, and the awesome thing is that some of the people we had the privilege of leading to Jesus Christ last year were working with them and us on the mission this morning. To God be the Glory for people meaning business with Jesus.   Anyway, this morning ( Tuesday ) we had the opportunity for teams to go door-to-door. There were so many seeds planted and many were harvested. I am thinking that we had 20 professions of faith and one Bible study planted and many follow-ups done for the studies that have been planted since last year. This afternoon we had our VBS with we are estimating a little over 200 children in the school. Wow! God is good! Thanks to all the workers that are making this event happen on Operation “GO” Guatemala. A few of our men went out during VBS and visited with a couple of families that have been allowing Pastor Walter to have Bible studies in their homes. Catch this—the families are not saved but they want studies in their homes…God is up to something.   Anyway, same drill the Lord willing on Wednesday. Continue to pray for us that He will receive glory and honor due His name. ( Matthew 5:16 ) Operation “GO” Team

Guatemala #2

Guatemala Blog #2   Well, we have had a wonderful day on Monday here in Coatepeque, Guatemala. We really appreciate so many of you going to the Lord in prayer this afternoon when I sent a urgent prayer request out on behalf of our team. The Lord did answer the prayer and we made it safely back to the site and had a wonderful afternoon of VBS and in-home visits. The problem was that the teachers had went on strike and had both of the roads blocked with people, tires, and any other thing they could find to block cars from getting through. Praise the Lord that one of the nationals that is working with us knew a pig-trail to go to with vehicles to get us through back to our rooms to eat lunch and then get back to the town of La Mercedes. After going on a “pretty much” mud ride in tourist vans we made it. Thank You Jesus! You guys prayed and the road block was taken down. Please continue to pray that it will stay down so we can continue the work God has begun to do once again with the church we are partnering with this week.  This is our second year as SHBC teams to work with Pastor Walter and his church to build relationships and trust with the people of La Mercedes. This is our vision, along with Larry and Sarah Plyler ( IMB missionaries ), and along with Pastor Walter to plant a church in La Mercedes. This is what we are working on.   On Tuesday we will be going door-to-door visiting from home to home and also in the afternoon we will be doing VBS again with the children. We are expecting 200-300 children on Tuesday. Will update hopefully Tuesday evening…have a great day in Jesus Christ!  Operation “GO” Team

Well, we are finally here in Coatepeque, Guatemala and the Lord has already blessed us by providing ways to get here. First, we had to purchase another ticket in Atlanta, but this was American Airlines fault, but this was just another wile ( scheme ) of the devil. We are bedding down for the evening and we have got prayer walking and VBS on Monday in La Mercedes. We will update as we go throughout the week. Pray for us as we plant seeds and spread the Gospel through door to door, VBS, and ministry.

This evening we had services at the church and Ernie, Danny, David, and Jamie shared testimonies and I had the privilege of preaching the Word of God. It was an awesome time and Soc and David had the privilege of leading one of our translators to the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord…keep praying….we are already looking forward to being back with our faith family at Sharon Heights Baptist Church.

Giving Thanks

Have you ever noticed that we live in a negative society? If we are not careful we will find ourselves tangled up in our own webs as we begin to find any negative things we can about ourselves and others. I think this is a curse from the fall of Adam and Eve and our sin natures that we inherited from our first parents.

But as we begin to think about it, we can always find others around us and especially in other parts of the world that are in worse conditions than we will ever be. Today, I want to hank God for my family, for my church, for my friends, but especially for the salvation of my soul. On December 24th of 1989, the most important thing happened in my life–Jesus Christ came into my life, and guess what? My life has never been the same since–praise the Lord! If you are havng trouble sleeping–try counting your blessings! Name them one by one!

I would love to read how you are blessed…respond and let me know!
